Discover Scuba is about a 2 hour program that will familiarize you with basic scuba diving knowledge and skills in the pool.  It is an excellent way to confirm if you are ready for a beginning scuba diving certification program.

Open Water Certification can be completed in as little as 2 weekends and is flexible to your schedule! It includes learning about basic diving information, mastering scuba skills in the pool and completing your ocean dives with an instructor.  You come to Malibu over one weekend, and then for your ocean dives, you complete your scuba weekend in Catalina! We also have other weekend and week day programs.

Continue Learning - Your Underwater World Awaits You

Congratulations on achieving your Open Water certification.  You have demonstrated mastery of the basic open water skills and are now able to dive independently to a maximum depth of 60 feet. The next steps are up to you. Is there a particular dive trip coming up that is beyond 60 feet?  Do you want to continue to learn about diving on wrecks?  The next place you dive may require skills you have not learned nor experienced yet. Maybe you simply want to increase your bottom time for repetitive dives. Most divers want to continue to expand their repertoire of diving skills and knowledge so that they can dive beyond the basic level of training.

The traditional approach to continuing diver education programs is encouraging beginner-level divers to take the next step by enrolling in a PADI Adventures in Diving (or Advanced Open Water) program. Each adventure or advanced dive gives you training and experience in the first dive of the corresponding Specialty course.

Maybe you know that underwater photography is what you want to do. You can take that Specialty after you are an Open Water diver.  If there is a specialty dive or course you'd like to complete, for the majority of specialty courses, you do not have to first take the Adventure or Advanced Open Water certification. Some specialties can improve the diving skills you use on each and every dive like - Peak Performance Buoyancy, and Underwater Navigation. There are a couple of exceptions - such as, Wreck and Deep (Adventure), Search & Recovery(Advanced or Underwater Navigation Specialty), Cavern and Ice (Advanced), Semiclosed Rebreather Diver (Dolphin/Atlantis) (Advanced OpenWater and Enriched Air Diver), and Public Safety Diver (Rescue Diver and public safety diver team affiliation) and all TecRec courses and programs.

We encourage you to complete the specialty courses or continuing education that best match your interests, perhaps with the greater goal of earning the Master Scuba Diver certification, the highest level of recreational scuba achievement.  What Specialties interest you?

Still have questions? Let us know which skills or types of diving you would like to explore at least one week prior to a start date (to allow time for any home study or in water assessment).  If you're not sure about the options or need more information, call or visit us, and we'll sort through how best to meet your schedule and needs.
