Freediving Program
The PADI Freediver course is to provide basic knowledge of the different freediving categories, the important rules of behavior and the safest way to perform freediving while allowing the fastest improvement. It is an introduction to the fundamental techniques of the freediver education system. This highly effective 2 day course covers everything from safety and problem management, breathing techniques and equipment selection to correct freediving methods for gradual depth progression. It is a formal freediving education system provides divers with a solid foundation to freedive confidently and safely up to depths of 10-16 metres/30-55 feet with breath-holds up to 3 minutes. For divers already achieving these depths, it will provide an enhanced understanding of the sport and modern new techniques.
This program includes academic presentations (PADI online program, Freediver Touch*, for home study prior to the first day), confined water training and one day for open water sessions.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR LEARNING TO FREEDIVE?
The minimum age is 12 years old for the PADI Basic Freediver course.
(PADI Basic Freediver is a subset program on the PADI Freediver course that only includes knowledge development and a confined water session)
- Basic Freediver, Freediver – 12 years or older
- PADI Freediver - 15 years old or older
- Advanced Freediver – 15 years+, offered privately currently
- Master Freediver – 18 years+, offered privately currently
- Instructor - 18 years+, offered privately currently
Freediver – 10-16 metres/30-55 feet*, 10 metres/30 feet constant weight required minimum
*Maximum depth for freedivers younger than 15 years is 12 metres/40 feet.
Here are the Equipment Requirements
- Mask, fins and snorkel - Preferably low volume mask and long blade fins.
- Wetsuit with gloves and boots - 5mm-7mm wetsuit is required for pool and ocean sessions. Ideally a good freediving suit with attached hood is perfect. (limited sizes in rental)
- Socks and gloves of at least 3mm to 6mm in thickness.
- Weights and weight belt - Having an assortment of smaller weights to adjust for proper buoyancy is a must.
- Depth and/or timing device - A waterproof watch at the very least, better yet a freediving computer is perfect.
Note: Personal expenses, if we travel to the ferry, meals, tips, and group ferry transportation (~$125) are not included.
