The Story Behind Grateful Diver
In 1995, Grateful Dead drummer and co-founder Bill Kreutzmann – an avid diver – reimagined the classic red dive flag by adding the iconic Grateful Dead lightning bolt, creating the Grateful Diver logo. This emblem was gifted to Coral Forest, a nonprofit focused on coral reef conservation, as a way to raise funds for marine protection. Fellow Grateful Dead member Bob Weir also supported the mission, serving on Coral Forest’s board of directors.

After merging with Reef Relief in 1998, Grateful Diver continued to thrive, connecting dive enthusiasts, music lovers, and conservationists worldwide. With every rashguard sold, Grateful Diver helps fund efforts to preserve and protect vital coral reef ecosystems.
